Finally, meaures are proposed to reduce OHL tripping due to lightning. Approaches to evaluate performance involving software simulations are also considered, as is lightning stroke data that is compared with tripping pattern. Historical tripping data is analyzed and compared to the international standard as well as other utility practices. This presentation explains procedures for evaluating performance of 154 kV overhead lines, based on experience in Turkey. The following file formats are recognized: SwaN-MR, JCAMP-DX, Bruker (Aspect, Win-NMR, XWin-NMR, TopSpin), Varian, SpinSight, Tecmag (NT-NMR, MacFID and MacNMR), Jeol (Delta, Alice and GX), GE Medical, Siemens, NMRPipe, MestreNova. High Ground Flash Density in certain regions can adversely impact performance of transmission lines and lightning studies must therefore be conducted regularly to ensure the system is at best performance and giving continuous supply to users. iNMR is a commercial program to process NMR spectra (up to 3 dimensions). His expertise lies in insulation coordination (lightning protection), grounding systems, and steady-state power quality. Currently, he is member of Cigre WG C4.67, representing ADM electricity distribution company. Topspin is also freely available to academic users. You can upgrade to a commercial product from Mestrlab for full use, and all future versions. He continued his career at Turkish Electricity Transmission Corporation. iNMR is a software available on Mac or Windows you can download in demo mode for use of select features with no expiration. He worked as a Power Systems Engineer at EDF Energy Networks Branch, one of the Power Distribution System Operators in England and later at National Grid Electricity Transmission as a Senior Power Systems Specialist, also serving as Department Head of the System Technical Performance. Partal graduated from Teesside University in the field of Electrical Engineering and completed his post-graduate degree in Advanced Manufacturing Systems at this same university. This presentation provides a description of these software programs, their features as well as relevant theoretical background and also discusses practical cases where they have been implemented.Evaluating Lightning Performance of Overhead Lines & Methods for Reducing Trip Rate The program not only estimates performance of the complete line but also shows how calculated insulation failure rates are distributed among different line sections. The aim is to provide users with a complete view of the estimated insulation performance of any transmission line as a function of insulator length. The capability of the LPE program is not limited to pollution performance but also includes insulator icing as well as lightning and switching overvoltage performance. This was resolved using statistical dimensioning which, after implementation, was converted into software that is presently available for both AC and DC applications. For example, the Line Performance Estimator (LPE) Program goes back to the 1990s when the Norwegian TSO started a major upgrade of 300 kV AC lines to 400 kV with the requirement that system reliability would remain the same. The methodology took 10 years to develop including conversion into software that verifies calculations by comparison with service experience. iNMR is a powerful software package for NMR spectroscopy experiments which offers the user a robust set of features for the preprocessing, processing, analysis. Specialized software has become available to assist statistical dimensioning of insulators intended for service in polluted areas.
